PB1A- Hotel Websites

Hotel website pages
 (links at bottom)
The genre I chose is hotel website pages, because with traveling that is one of the main tools people use to find a place to stay and to double check if the place they are staying in is their price range, the location, and if it is comfortable. Most of the time the website is the biggest advertisement for these hotels, so they have to make their site as captivating as possible to their audience. They do this by using several different conventions, that almost every website has.
After looking at several hotel websites, I viewed that usually the first thing that popped up is pictures of the hotel’s best feature. Sometimes it was the view the hotel had, other times it was the inside of the room. Another thing they all had in common was they had a “reservation” tab particularly on or very close to the appealing picture. Usually this was on the top hand corner, very visible to their customers. They do this so people are attracted to their rooms and will want to book them, they first show you the fine aspects of the hotels then make it easy (a click away) to get in that hotel. Most of their customers are middle age adults, going on a trip. Many of their customers are going on vacation or to visit family so these websites also have to make it accommodating to families so they give options for the number of beds on very site.
When scrolling through just the homepage of these websites, I noticed very one has contact information at the bottom. These contacts are not just phone numbers, they all go as far as social media. For example, they have the facebook, instagram, and twitter logo on the bottom so when you press on them they take them to those social media webpages. With including that, they are assuming their customers or target audience is on social media often and could possibly draw more attention to their hotel. Most hotel homepage websites include captions, that uses words for instance “luxury” or “relaxing”, making the tone very professional but appealing at the same time. They also use welcoming statements like “come experience” and “this is where you belong” which gives the people the impression that they are getting invited to stay at that hotel.
What makes a hotel website a hotel website, is the sleek and comfortable feel of it. It uses pictures and places certain buttons in plain site so people can see them. For example, deals and specials, things that make the website money. They also give summary of why their hotel is so great or what their hotel has done right under the picture at the top. They use thin font and soft colors to give it a kind of warm/ arms open feel. One of the big things they use is they do not pressure their customers, they want them to be relaxed. That's what makes a hotel website a hotel website.
